Idowu Christianah, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), was allegedly murdered by a friend following a failed kidnapping for ransom, highlighting growing security concerns on Nigerian campuses and in urban areas. The prime suspect, Adeleye Ayomide, has been arrested.

Christianah was abducted while traveling from her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for industrial training. The kidnapper, identified as a friend, initially demanded ₦3 million from her family. Despite negotiations lowering the ransom to ₦350,000, which was paid, Christianah was not released. Instead, the kidnapper made further demands for bank statements, prolonging the ordeal.

Although the exact circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation, initial reports suggest a brutal end following complications with the ransom payment.

This incident highlights the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom have become alarmingly frequent. The fact that a friend was involved adds a layer of betrayal and has sparked discussions on trust and safety among peers, especially within educational settings.

Police have been notified and are actively investigating, with the suspect reportedly in custody. The community and student body are calling for swift and transparent justice, hoping this case will prompt stricter measures against such crimes.
